Product Group Maintenance IN1000

The product group file maintenance is used to add, change or delete product groups. A product group must be created before a product can be added. A product group code should be a code that will associate a family of similar products (example: a group dairy could include products milk, cheese etc.)

In Dynamic3i the Product Group controls all General Ledger Postings at the inventory level by way of the reason codes defined to the group.  Reason codes are defined in the Reason Code Maintenance (GB4300).

Product Group

Enter the product group code.

Group Description

Enter the product group description.

Note:

A product group of 'miscellaneous' must be included in the system in order to report on all miscellaneous type sales transactions in the Sales Analysis Module.

Gross Margin Percent

This is used by order entry to determine whether to place order on hold because [(price less cost) / cost * 100] of product ordered is less than lower limit specified here for the product's product group. Note: This 'hold' logic must be enabled by setting the appropriate 'Order Hold' flag in the System Flags Maintenance (GB2800).

Regular Reason

Enter the regular reason code for the product group. This is used to post to General Ledger accounts utilizing specific accounts set up in the reason code maintenance. This is mandatory for system postings in various modules.

Credit Note Reason

Enter the credit note reason code for the product group. This is used to post to General Ledger accounts utilizing specific accounts set up in the reason code maintenance. This is mandatory for system postings in various modules.

Classification

Choose the product group classification from the list.  Group Classifications are created under the Product Class Maintenance (IN7600) and are flagged as being a group classification.  A product group classification is a higher grouping of the different products product groups while a product classification is another way of grouping or classifying a product.  It is in the same level of grouping as the product group.  Each product can be assigned to a product class in the same way as it is assigned a product group.

Example:

The item ‘20” Sony LCD Display’ belongs to the product group ‘LCD DISPLAY’

This product group ‘LCD DISPLAY’, belongs to the product group classification ‘MONITORS and DISPLAY’.

The product classification for this product is set to “>19 Inches”.

Under the product group classification you would see product groups like ‘LCD DISPLAY’, ‘CRT DISPLAY’ and ‘TV DISPLAY’

Under product classification you would see the different products where the display screen is at least 20”.
