DYNAMIC 3i EDIT FORMS

Note.  Edit Forms is only available in DYNAMIC3i utilizing 'Oracle Forms 10g' or higher.

One of the features of Dynamic3i is the ability to edit the screen of the forms/applications that you use.   The first step to using this feature is to have security set in order to make the utility available to you as a user.

This is done by setting the “Edit Forms” flag in the user master maintenance application - gb4200.

After this is set you will then be able to select the feature from the “Help” pull-down tab in the menu block (above toolbar) of any application.

When this feature is selected you will notice that the heading of the form (upper left of the application window) will include the words ‘(Edit Form - Move item)’.

The ‘Move item’ is the default setting when edit forms is entered.  To change this simply “Right – click” anywhere on the form and you will have a list of available options for the edit form feature.  Selection of one of these options will invoke the edit form feature into that mode of operation.  The heading will change to reflect what mode you are in.

Note: After making any changes using the “Edit Form” feature you must save the changes for them to take affect.  This MUST be done by right-clicking and selecting the “Save Changes” on the right click option menu.

To restore a changed form to the original Dynamic3i default layout simply right-click and select the ‘Restore Form’ option from the right-click menu and then save this change by then selecting the ‘Save Changes’ option.  Note also that the default restored layout will not be seen until the next time the form/application is executed.

Below is a description of each of the “Edit Form” feature options:

Move Item

When in this mode you simply click and drag the field you wish to move.  Moving it to the desired location on the form will also move the attached prompt, so placement of the field in its new location should be watched.

Widen Item

This Mode allows for the field width to be increased or decreased.  Simply click and drag on the field you wish to either increase or decrease in size (left or right movement of mouse).  The field will adjust its size on the screen.

Heighten Item

Same action as the “Widen Item” above.  Only difference is the height of the field is adjusted.  (Up or Down movement of the mouse).

Delete item

When in this mode you simply point and click at the fields you wish to delete.  If the field can be deleted it will disappear.  If it cannot then nothing will happen.  This indicates that the field you are acting on is a mandatory field requirement of the form and the field cannot be removed from the screen.

Color Item

When in this mode and a field is selected a pop-up color palette will be presented to you.  Selection of a color will change the selected field on the screen to that color.

Color Prompt

Same action as the “Color Item” mode only that just the prompt color of the item selected will be changed to the color selected from the palate.

Edit Prompt

This mode will present a pop-up field near the bottom of the form when a field is selected.  Enter the text that you wish to change the prompt too and then click on the update button.  NOTE. Hitting the “Return key” or “Enter” key does not change the prompt.  The update button must be pressed.

Edit Label

This is the same as “Edit Prompt” only it acts strictly on the button labels for any buttons that may be in the form.  Simply select the button and a pop-up field near the bottom of the form will appear when a field is selected.  Enter the text that you wish to change the button label too and then click on the update button.  NOTE. Hitting the “Return key” or “Enter” key does not change the prompt.  The update button must be pressed.

Edit Hint

This allows you to change the hint line help of the field.  The hint line help is located at the bottom left hand corner of the application and changes as each field is entered.  To edit simply select the field and a pop-up field near the bottom of the form will appear.  Enter the text that you wish to change the hint help too and then click on the update button.  NOTE. Hitting the “Return key” or “Enter” key does not change the prompt.  The update button must be pressed.

Display Item

This selection displays a list of all items that have been removed/deleted on the form via the editing forms function.  To re-display the field simply select it form the list and it will be returned to the form layout.

Restore Form

Restores a changed form to the original Dynamic3i form layout for the given application.  Note.  If selected the ‘Save Changes’ must also be selected in order for the restoration to occur.  Note also that the default, restored layout will not be seen until the next time the form/application is executed.
